Masca Walk
Does anyone know if the beach in Masca is open to the public. I read somewhere that it was closed due to threat of rockslides but that was 18 months ago. Also, would anyone be able to point me to the right website regarding getting a boat back from Masca beach to Los Gigantes ( assuming the beach is open)?

Re: Masca Walk
You could always peruse this place to find out some info. It is a very good place to get much info, some laughs and some great pics. Some funny lady runs it and if you meet her as a thank you for using her musings you must buy her a great big drink.

Re: Masca Walk
Yes the beach is open for collecting those fit enough to do the trek down from Masca. These are the people I always recommend as my first choice El Cardón and this would be my second choice Patea tus Montes
Of course I haven´t done the hike because I only use ski poles when there is snow and I have those bloody big sledges stuck to my feet dont get the same effect on rock :sulk2:

Re: Masca Walk
Is it possible to do the hike on my own? Generally, I avoid those guided tours like the plague. I just want to book the return boat trip to Los Gigantes. ( Thanks everyone for the suggestions!)

Re: Masca Walk
You get a taxi or bus to Masca and then book your boat from one of the little places there. You then start your walk and a considerable time later you are at the beach. The boat will then come and tell you sorry but your ticket has tomorrows date on it, see you then.

Re: Masca Walk
So how long does it actually take to get down Kev, assuming you dont twist an ankle, sure I could even do down hill stuff. Not much more than 1000m high is it?

Re: Masca Walk
I am like Reg knees hurt going down more, forward flex is a killer but I would suffer it.

There's been a few picked up by helicopter lately as they tried coming down base over apex (or words to that effect)

Very informative review that. Not to be undertaken light-heartedly either!

Re: Masca Walk
As a follow up do any of you participate in any decent treks when you are out there? We tried to fit one in every week the last couple of times we have been out there.

Re: Masca Walk
Got a friend who wants to do Masca, but wait for this, he wants to know if he is allowed to swim back to Los G. He is more than capable, but my question is, would it be allowed?

You could swim to Masca, walk upwards, then back to Los G

Re: Masca Walk
Don´t understand the question, why wouldn´t he be allowed to swim to LG if he can do it. He just has to not bother getting on the boat.

Re: Masca Walk
I just wonder what he is going to do with his walking gear or is he having somebody else acting as his porter.
