All you can do Reg is do what YOU think is best. If he is suffering it would be kinder to stop his suffering.

When I first met Trish, my cat was like that. Couldn't clean itself, fur got all matted, started messing in the house. I took it to the vets and got it put down. I was in tears coming out of there, I'd found that cat as a little stray kitten in the mid-60s and it must have been about 1980 when it died, 'cos that's when I first met Trish and she went to the vets with me.

I'm so sorry to hear about Lynus Reg! Micky had a virus a couple of months ago where he could not eat as his mouth was too sore. Have a look at his tongue, see if the tip is pink/reddish? The vet told me the name of the virus but I have now forgotten. He could of course not clean himself at the time and it was painfull to eat. I know Lynus is very old and it may be his old age but do have a look at his tongue. My cats nearly dead 4248600970

You think he is suffering Reg, remember cats purr when in pain as well as when happy. If in pain as hard as it is for us think we should let them go, as we should our elders. OOPS got into trouble elsewhere for saying that.

It could be his teeth - I would get them checked. Infected gums and teeth aren't just a problem in the mouth. In dogs and cats they can affect the heart, kidneys and intestine. The tartar contains bacteria than can travel to other parts of the body.

TD, think I started the euthanasia thread elsewhere as it was currently a topic on Emmerdale at the time. I am all for it, you put your pets out of their misery, why not your loved ones.

I think it is all down the quality of life, whether Human or animal, if the person has expressed this in front of solid witnesses they still can't be put to sleep, yet if we don't do it to an animal we are known as cruel. Another damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I don´t have long left .... if I follow the same pattern as my parents and grand parents I have 2-3 years max. :sulk1: but like PS at least at the moment everything seems to be in pretty good working order. I have plans in place for the next 5 years of things I am wanting to do so I'm not ready to hand anything to anyone without a fight. But should I get to the point where I just want to roll over then I hope someone will give me a push rather than leave me to hang around.
