Shiv, you know anything about the police raiding an animal shelter because of unauthorised sterilisations? Seems typical bureaucracy to me when people are trying to go a good job.

Don´t know who reported them, but we do know that these vets come across regularly and neuter dozens of animals while they are here. It is to be hoped that they can continue because as sure as hell the Cabildo are doing sod all about it other than stopping the good work that is going on.
The work that these vets are doing helps save the refuges hundreds of euros that is needed each week just to feed the animals they have there. I can´t imagine how much LA have to pay each month but just to stand still we need over €4000 at K9 to cover basic cost of food and rent that is why when someone says I only have my coppers I tell them every single penny helps.
Sorry ...... don´t get me going.... Shall I make this a new thread !!

The only ones to gain from this would be local vets ,who would have more work.

"Officials say the facility does not have a licence for the work it carries out."

Perhaps all the Forums, all the Animal charities and media should start a petition.

Re: Animal neutering facility raided
This has made me so angry. these vets come every year and have neutered literary thousands of animals. They help the refuges that cannot fund total castrations themselves. Last year they neutered 200 dogs from LA, with no post op complications (not sure how many this year) as Gypsey says , the cost of just looking after them is huge (we are 10,000 approx a month). There is SUPPOSED to be money from the Govt to help.
This is not LA, we dont have a building, we are open plan haha, and Im not naming the organisation, as they are responsible for arranging help for ALL refuges and needy animals, not only there own.
It was a paperwork issue, that has now been resolved, the press have just gone all out to shock, using the term, 'unsanitary' meaning not in a vets surgery.
The statement in the Spanish press read 'The police say that they have immobilized medications like antibiotics, anaesthetics and saline solutions, an electric sterilizer, a refrigerator, carrying crates, trapping cages, operation stretchers and surgical materials.' With all that equipment, and the fact that these vets (well paid career)volunteer to come and help its unlikely they are butchering animals.
It wouldnt surprise me if someones dirty mitts hadn't been greased with the mandatory backhander..THIS EFFIN ISLAND!!!!!

Re: Animal neutering facility raided
Something similar is underway, while its in the news. It is after all TENERIFES problem, and for them to hinder any help from the outside, does not bode well, especially in 'International Spay week'.Topdog wrote:Perhaps all the Forums, all the Animal charities and media should start a petition.
Thoughts are to write a collective letter from ALL refuges that need help to Govt and high profile animal lovers like the owner of Loro Parque (who does actively support some refuges)asking for an island wide programme of neutering. We will see!!
I think when the penny drops that this work was being done free of charge to the authorities, and now they are being asked to fund it, they will rue the day they carried out this stupid action.

Re: Animal neutering facility raided
I have just been rattling my collection box in Los Cris and was speaking to another lady who also has a very small refuge near the airport. (I didn´t know of its existence) She said she had 6 of hers neutered by these vets last year and they were all fine. I remember asking K9 the question a year or so ago to make sure they knew these people were here and of course they did, their problem at that time was getting the quantity transported to wherever they were doing the work.
It saves thousands of euros for the refuges, and even more it prevents thousands of unwanted animals being born. It would be absolutely terrible if the vets decided they would not come back after such treatment and who could blame them.

I wouldnt blame them either, this work should be for the benefit of the third world..the fact that is is needed here, is shameful to Tenerife, a so called civilised island. I remember last year it was like wacky races, every man and his donkey cart were drawn upon. If the police had stopped one then, what would they have thought, loads of dozy dogs lying in the back of cars. We all might not be the RSPCA, but you do what you have to.
This seems like a perfect opperchancity to tell everyone NOT to throw anything away on holiday, I will have it all. Gypsy , get yer twopenneth worth in about your books....xx
