I've found an old photo I took of the balloon that used to be next to Parque de la Paz strip of bars. It was taken from a balcony on the Azahara apartments. The big tower is one of the Torres del Sol apartment blocks and the crane is building what will be the building that houses the Mercadona supermercado...

Yep, the first time I went Tenerife, the balloon was what I looked for to get my bearings.

We got lost coming home, our plane got diverted to Lanza to pick up some stranded passengers, 7 1/2 hours flight time, not even a free drink.

Re: PDLA balloon.
Health & Safety would only let it go up when the wind was below a certain speed, windy place Tenerife, plus the two times I went on it there were only about 6 of us on the basket. It was a fantastic view from up there though. I loved it!

Re: PDLA balloon.
I thought it came down in the Tropical storm of 2005 and there was no money to put it back up or the site it was on 'disappeared'. This vid is interesting, at least once you get into about 2 mins. and see the devastation. I remember driving down the TF1 and seeing the pylons looking like bananas. We were without electricity for just 24 hours but parts of the north went without for a week.

Re: PDLA balloon.
Cool! That was a better story than mine so we'll go with yours Gypsy! Is that why all them red and white pylons are alongside the TF1 now? I remember seeing the balloon not being in its housing, but the housing was there for a while after it disappeared.

Re: PDLA balloon.
We have a couple of types of pylons here, there is this one which comes in red and white (for close to the airport) and in plain metallic silver which are supposed to be easier on the eye and not spoil the landscape like the second image which was damaged in the storm.
