He can ( apparently) go for either Ireland or GB. Bear in mind that he has already represented Ireland as an amateur and had no problem taking grants from the Golfing Union of Ireland. Golf is administered over here on an all island basis.

McDowell's mother is nationalist and his dad is unionist. He can't win. He has said that the only logical way to proceed is for the Olympic committee to state who they ( the golfers ) should play for, otherwise, they are going to alienate an awful lot of people.
