Just read the PM and IMO think there are some excellent ideas in there and we should certainly adopt many of them.
I particularly like the bit about having a competition to see who can guess how many pints it takes to get Adam tipsy - the prize being the winner gets the equivalent amount of drink as a prize.

Ah, just one problem with that one Gypsy, you would have to get me sober to start the competition...

Hi Topdog
I do not know if you saw
my post, but i have some suggestions for you, but i didnt want to post
to all to effect any other readers.
So firstly i like your site,
its user friendly and has some great info. I have watched it a lot since
I first joined, but I do see a small issue, that I think i want to
throw out to you guys.
As a newby and travelled and lived abroad
alot, forums are my first stop. Yours is welcoming, I see many people
'view' but rarely does an ‘un-regular’ post anything.
To be
honest and like most forums, there are your regulars, who all know each
other and a post, becomes a little chit chat, just between the group.
This is great, but for others, I do not believe they will respond as it
is like a 'regs club', for those who know each other and people don't
want to get in between it all.
I see two avenues with your site, firstly for chit chat, info etc and secondly for income.
I have some suggestions firstly to try to introduce the 'unregs' to post.
1.Run
a competition. Email companies, such as salons, hotels, clothing shops
etc in Tenerife to donate a prize and they get a free advert for a month
or so on the top of your site if they donate.
Offer the winner of
the best post on the funniest picture or funniest thing they have seen
or the funniest experience in Tenerife/travls or something like that to
get the interest from all people and a bit of fun happening.
2.
Ask more questions, ie: Where is an organic shop in Tenerife/Tell us
your experiences with the foreign office/Best place to buy a bicycle,
where can I learn Spanish, etc etc, even though all you regs might know
the answer, give the opportunity for another to answer…hopefully someone
will :)
3. Have meet ups. They are ideal. In my experience they
generated so many people. But make it simple and comfortable for others.
Post a poll, coming, not coming, maybe etc etc
These are just a couple of ideas to try to introduce others into your forum alot more
So secondly…This has other great benefits.
I
am a web designer as well, so as you would be aware being an avatar,
your site generates income. For an advertiser/advert mediator, it does
have some impact on how many people click on your site, but as an
overall, posts and bla bla are so much more efficient to generate more
interest for advertisers, great for you for income and great for them.
The
area in which you allow adverts has the potential for 2 adverts
comfortably and 2 adverts at the bottom page. Sell your space to
generate more revenue.
I hope you are not offended by any of my
suggestions and again they are just my persoanl ideas only, as I said I
like your site, but I also like to see others on a site throw stuff out
there.
Have a great day
Cheers
Tif"
OK. Nothing to keep hidden there in my opinion.
Some good ideas in there.
Re meet-ups, we do that pretty regularly when we have enough members over at the same time.
Forum logo, I got made specially with the edges blurred to fade into background. I can't do that myself plus I think we need a bit of continuity on the forum so people get "familiar" with it when they visit, rather than changing it every week or so.
Re adverts, we would have to pay an annual fee to Forumotion for them to remove their adverts before we could post ours. Would we manage to get enough income to cover the cost of removing existing ads? (Remember we would have to pay every year to remove Forumotion ads.)
I like the idea of asking more Tenerife-orientated questions to encourage replies from anyone looking in.
Competitions and E-mailing companys? I'll leave that with Topdog as he'll be out there soon for good and he can test the water to see if it's a go'er or not.
All opinions are welcomed so fill your boots you lot!

All forums are 'cliquey', Thats how we started, the clique that wasnt appreciated elsewhere. However if people introduce themselves they never get ignored, cant see how we can force people to join in but if they do they are generally treated with much respect. Also do we need to make a profit? Nah, been making a loss most of my life and some bugger will only come along and tax it anyway. Sometimes I hover over the donate button but I soon get over it. :Not me Guv: I cant see that anything needs changing really. Mind you I have been with the same woman for 37 years, same house for 24 years and the same car for 5. Even had my Tenerife pad for 11 years, I can find it easy when pissed. Only the Government needs changing, not this.
