Lots of British humour around at the moment e.g."rust in peace", "hell is going to be privatised soon". Irrespective of your opinion of MT, is it correct for UK taxpayers to pay for her funeral? If the "eyes of the world" are going to be on the event next Wednesday, surely there would be enough corporate sponsors willing to foot the bill.

Re: Margaret Thatcher´s Funeral
I'd say the National Union of Miners would cover all the expenses! I'm not a UK citizen but I cannot see why any taxpayer should have to foot the bill for any politician's funeral. I think it is going to cost 10 million. How many nurses or firemen would that employ??

Re: Margaret Thatcher´s Funeral
Whether you liked her or not I find many of the comments distasteful and a lot are made by those who were either children or not even born when she was PM, so all they are doing is showing themselves up as following the crowd rather than speaking from personal experience.
Maggie I understand did not want a State funeral, her wishes should be respected. As for the cost, is it worse than the Miners paid in rent for Arthur Scargills London home from 1982-2011 when they finally won the court case as he wanted it for life, despite having nothing to do with them since 2002!!

Re: Margaret Thatcher´s Funeral
She's not getting a state funeral apparently. Its one step down from that ( mind you, I don't really understand what the difference is). I think the taxpayers money can be much better spent elsewhere. Our last PM to die, had a private funeral i.e. paid for by the family, but I think that was because he was so corrupt, there would have been an outcry should it have been state funded. Mind you, that still didn't stop politicians from all sides attending and indeed, the current PM at the time, gave a graveside oration. With regards to the miners paying for Scargill's home ( a feckin disgrace btw) two wrongs don't make a right imo.

Nor in my opinion either 3rd, it's just that those who seem to be forever quoting how she looked after the rich at the expense of the poor forget that some of the people being championed were only in it for their own ends.

Re: Margaret Thatcher´s Funeral
A state funeral usually involves lying in state for three days, and a higher-end invitation list which excludes Jeremy Clarkson.

Re: Margaret Thatcher´s Funeral
Actually a state funeral for her would bring in far more than 10mil. Think they should also allow ding dong the witch is dead should be played on the radio, this is a choice of people. Protesting peacefully is good. Also letting people worship her or celebrate her life is also good.
