One for LR here, I notice they use that blue cord to pull cables through pipes, When the theives nick the cable, how do they get the new one back in, do they still use ferrets with lines attached, then use the line to pull the cable through ?, Been bothering me all day,

HaHa! Nope, they have vehicles with rodding machines with 300m of continuous rods on a big wheel inside a lorry which they shove up the duct, or they can do it by hand rods, these are 3m long and similar to drain rods which are screwed together and then there is a thing called a duct motor which consists of two air bags connected by a piston rod. One bag inflates and "grabs" the duct then the deflated bag creeps up to it by the action of the piston. Deflated bag then inflates, grabs duct, other bag deflates and piston extends and so and so forth...clever innit. For new duct, the contractors use the old trick of tying a length of rope to a bundle of rags then use an air compressor to blast it up the duct.
Once the rods reaches the next manhole they just tie a drawrope on to it and pull it back. (The duct motor pulls it's own rope behind it).

It must have been a rush job you should have had 1inch of tarmac on top to make it a proper long lasting surface and it don't show oil drips.
