The Seanad (Senate) is our 2nd house, more or less the same as the house of lords, just as elitest ( members are by and large appointed and are generally members of the party in government) Tbh, it's well past its time. That being said, I voted to keep it as I'll do everything to weaken the current government. The opinion polls had predicted that it would be abolished by a margin of 70/30. This is a big kick in the balls for the taoiseach ( prime minister) as the whole idea was his. He also claimed that it would save millions by getting rid of it. Turns out that it cost over 20 million just to hold the referendum. Anyway, thats enough boring stuff, carry on reading the other posts
