Latest news. Eileen's mum won't be coming home. Best case scenario, she'll be going into a home. My folks' G.P. rang my brother to tell him that we "need to make a decision as a family" in relation to my parents (mum in particular ( even though Dad is the one with diagnosed dementia)). To top it all off, a very good friend of the family ( lived across the road from my folks) died yesterday. She was brilliant with support and friendship to my parents over the last number of years. I'm not feeling down or anything though I must admit, when the bad news that eventually will come, it will provide a certain amount of relief. Anyway, life must go on. I still have to finish my bloody tax returns!!

Yeah. Another issue is that nursing homes over here cost 700 to 800 per week.

When my dad went into a home (dementia), they just got his old age pension in lieu of payment for food, bed and nursing...he had a wee room to himself with an en-suite toilet, tv etc. That seems a fair way to me, he had no use for money anyway as he wasn't allowed out on his own.
