People behind these pipe dreams should be made to read the history of the Edinburgh Tram Fiasco...
Edinburgh has a very good, cheap, clean, modern, profitable, council run bus service, efficient bus services running to all the outer suburbs, then a few, and it was a few tram mad twats in the council got their way, that's when the farce started, the tram line, and that's what it is, a line not a system, which due to increasing costs was reduced in length by almost half, the surviving half runs from the city centre on the airport on the outskirts of town, if you have a look at the route plan, there are very few stops, and even fewer stops close to where people actually live, the council have eventually admitted it will never be profitable, a point opposers of the scheme gave predictions of well before the project even started...
It was a vanity project, never a serious transport solution in my opinion...
Sent this e-mail to my mate who stays one side of Edinburgh, and his brother the other:-
"I hear they (the council) have voted to continue with the tram project, all be it only half the length than originally planned, but never mind, the half they've saved is on your side of town, be great when you go over to see Bob (his brother) you can jump the 26 bus from your place, get off at Glasgow Road, walk over to the Gyle tram stop, (is only about a mile and a half), jump the tram in to Princess Street, then catch the 26 bus to Bobs, should only add about half an hour to your journey time,,, you Green Twat..."
Should add, mates a bit of a tree hugger, that said he was totally against the tram system, could see it was just a waste of money...
