I know it isn´t funny and probably more tasteless than I am usually - but some of those American TV shows make me want to slit my wrists.

Says they were watching South Korean soaps. 
Perhaps they deserve their leaders then. If the same happened here we would all be revolting I expect. Personally I would escape South somehow, a raft in the fog perhaps. Dont expect a welcome here though.
