Putin takes a page from the US invasion of Grenada and gets all of Ukranian navy and the most important Crimean region of Ukraine without firing a shot

Lot's to consider with this issue:-

Ukraine is basically Russia - over 60% of the people that live there are of Russian decent.

Russia supplies the Ukraine with most of it's gas requirements.

Russia has had a large Naval base in Crimea (a warm water Naval base - quite handy in the winter) for many many years and employs thousands of locals.

A small percentage of Ukraine residents now want to join the EU.

If and when the do join, they will then be entitled to live / work anywhere in the EU.

Just like the Bulgarians and Romanians who have been welcomed with open arms into the UK ?

They may be of Russian descent ( not sure about the 60% Jim), but the majority of the population want to run the country in a "westerly" manner.  If they do join eventually, they will have to adopt the euro as a precondition. As the parameters have strengthened significantly for this, since the crash, the chances are they won't be able to achieve these targets for decades. Incidentally, I totally agree with this "Free movement" of people around the EU. No problem with anyone working here, but this bullshit of being allowed to claim welfare is bollox
