Evening all. My pc crashed today. Didn't like an update to the sound driver. Spent the last 5 hours trying to fix it. Couldn't get into the control panel, any of the recovery modes, automatic repair, system file check nothing. Had to go back to factory settings in the end. Managed to keep my photos though everything else is gone.

I had two laptops, the new one which is 5 years old has a problem with the screen as the image comes and goes, something to do with the connectors.
The old one which is about 7 or 8 years old ...the socket where you plug in to charge the battery is buggered. It would cost €100 to put it right and because it is soldered onto the motherboard it could fry the whole laptop. So yesterday I went out and bought a new one. Steph at Witzend is setting it up for me as we speak. I hope to collect it tomorrow but I will have to get used to Windows 8.1- was hoping to hang on until Windows 10 was released but I believe you can get a free upgrade.
At the moment I am limping along with a screen that is rather on the dim side..... a bit like I will be tomorrow when I first start using 8.1

evening all. My new mobile phone has arrived. I lost the previous one and someone very dishonest must have picked it up.

Good evening, I have that windows 8 on my laptop, its easy enough, well I can switch it on. You have to be careful because it SWIPES. One minute you are busy typing next a whole new screen has arrived.

One reason not been on a lot is my laptop which was 8 months old has been for repair after just not doing anything, that had 8.0. Anyhow after goint to the shop I bought it and virtually smacking the guy, I said I would denouce him if I did not get an answer as it had been 8 weeks and he kept making promices,he got very Irate and stuck his head against mine. I pointed out his shop was full of brits and they would back me if I laid him out. He refunded my money. I bought a NEW lappie at the airport. It is a Toshiba and has windows 8 new version and so far so good.
