    Loro Parque Empty Loro Parque

    Post by 3rdforum Wed 9 Nov 2011 - 14:10

The word "zoo" doesn't really explain what Loro Parque is. It has animals, birds, killer whales, seals and dolphins to name but a few. If you have kids, this place is a must. It is located in the north in Puerto de la Cruz. The prices are a little steep especially of you have a big family, but in my opinion, well worth it. The ORCA show alone is worth the entrance money. I have included a link at the bottom of the post which will bring you to the park's website. There are excursion buses running from all the major resorts ( just keep an eye out for fliers in hotel lobbies etc) and the park is well signposted if you travel by car. Again, here are a few tips

    1. Get there early. This place is unbelievably busy and the car park quickly fills up. ( You may have to park on the street some distance from the entrance. Please keep in mind if you have small children).
    2. Bring plenty of water/snacks. The shops inside sell water & food etc, but are quite expensive. Also, you will invariably have to queue for these items so save money and time and bring your own.
    3. Get to the ORCA show at least 20 minutes before the start to avail of the best seats ( if you are ringside, you're gonna get wet!)
    4. There is a "Tree Canopy Walk" which may not be your cup of tea if afraid of heights. Also, this wouldn't be suitable for the infirm/ disabled.
    5. Don't forget the suncream!. It will take you at least 3-4 hours to see it all so although there is plenty of shade, you will still need the sun block.

You can park in the large car park on the beach in town and get the train up to the park.
Lets not forget that many of the animals are rescued and the money you pay helps towards the vast veterinary costs.
There is no other Zoo I can think of that gives you so many very good shows in one day and if planning a day make sure you look at show times first.
In line with this you will need to plan your route as the distance between things could mean you missing some of the other animals.
This is Value for money and a very memorable day out.
If you have children and want to treat them why not let them do an interactive package.

The Discovery tour shows you the short cuts between the shows, apparently they are all timed so that you can (if you know the short cut) get from one to the next, to the next etc. and go round in a logical order. Can't remember the route but might be worth getting a timetable and taking a few minutes to mark up on the map.

Here are a few photos I took in Loro Parque. They have shortened the Orca show to about 10/12 minutes but still worth it!

Good to know TVT. Also, as a visitor, you can go back for a second visit within 2 weeks for 10 euro a head.
