On our last day in Tenerife we headed out to enjoy the sunset, we were sitting in a beach bar on Fanabe beach having a beer and witnessed a distressing event. We heard a lot of sirens in the area and about 4 emergency vehicles arrived on the lower promenade within a few minutes. It was obvious something was happening and we could see a large group on the very end of the beach at the El Duque end. The emergency services all headed on foot to the same area, it was obvious that there had been an incident, by now there was a large crowd of people on the walkway round the headland watching the proceedings. As soon as the emergency services arrived you could tell it it was serious as the began to administer CPR straight away. More ambulances arrived and various equipment carried out to the end of the beach but eventually all the activity stopped and it was evident that the outcome was not good.
It was one of those incidents that really made us reflect on the important things in life, health family and friends. Although we don't know any of the details of the incident (we assumed it was someone on holiday) we both felt sad that someone was having to deal with the loss of a loved one, our hearts went out to them. Dealing with a death is difficult enough at any time, but imagine if it happens when you are on holiday the stress and trauma must be tenfold.
