1953. "Colonial authorities" imprison native freedom fighter Jomo Kenyatta for daring to rebel against white invaders in his country. Where have I heard that before? Every feckin' where! That's where!

A couple of lines from the above article:-

As the Scottish Darien Company was backed by 25–50% of all the money circulating in Scotland, its failure left the entire Lowlands almost completely ruined and was an important factor in weakening their resistance to the Act of Union (completed in 1707). 


 

It failed because the English banned any English registered companies from trading with the Scots, they also let the Spanish navy attack the Scots and prohibited the RN from intervening. Then they told the investers (rich Barons, merchants etc.), they would pay back their losses in full if they signed the Union of Parliaments.

So basically nothing's changed...
