Got to 56 years of age and decided that there were more important things in life than work.
Play a lot of golf, do a lot of walking, play the Stockmarket (badly) and generally potter around the house/garden.
I don't read the newspapers any more and haven't had the TV on for months.
Life is good, just hope I can live to be 100 and then get shot by a jealous husband ! ! !
I'd say you might have some chance at one of them but no chance at both

Not actually done any since Tenerife, starting back Thursday. Had too much on and too much to catch up. Have a quick fix.

Re: What do you work at?
I have been on a course today for Parent and Baby fostering, it was more interesting than I thought. It would be very demanding and bloody hard.
It is short placements of around 14 weeks to assess whether a parent or parents are ok to be living with a baby. Court cases etc involved, so hard, the live of that baby is based on what you feed back to the assessment panel.

Hats off to those who take something like that on. I know how hard it was bringing up our own two!

Re: What do you work at?
We are considering doing 2 a year when we become swallows. We would do this for around 30 weeks of the year and 22 weeks on the rock. Or maybe just the one lot a year.
It would seem wrong to waste all our training and a very useful thing to do. Do we earn money at it, yes of course but you do not do any fostering for money. 24/7 Job so about 15p an hour.

My sister has 2 foster kids, one is female, 11 and one male, 13. Brother and sister. She's had them about 3 years now. Nice kids.

Most nice kids Cam, we have had our two for over 6 years now and they still have loads of baggage, but great kids.

It's such a pity some kids are not as fortunate as many of us have been

Re: What do you work at?
I cannot stress enough how full of admiration I am for those who foster kids. There is invariably a history to be dealt with. I know of one family who have done this for 20 years or more. Its a never ending job usually much harder than raising your own. So, Topdog, I take my hat off to both of you for doing such a wonderful thing.

Re: What do you work at?
No award needed mate but shucks and thanks to all. The kids getting to college and getting distinctions, from ones who teachers said were the most disruptive they have ever taught.
We have being doing it officially for 14 years but in the old system you could foster with a short assessment, which we did.
Sometimes it is so hard and others just so rewarding. We are long term carers and all our kids have been with us until independence, l keeping in touch.

Re: What do you work at?
Not by a long chalk mate, manage to do a lot whilst at work as spend a lot of time waiting for various things to happen, that you can't leave.Perfectspecimen wrote:Raspberry Kev, how perfect are you? And you still find time for the best forum, grrrrrrrrr bloody perfect you are then.........
Fostering is not time consuming if you are organised, I use tick charts for lots of things then just file them. Reports are very easy as you just write the truth in as smaller paragraph as possible. Rest is just like looking after your own, good team us and our own kids are all registered carers, easy really.
I would hate have problems like some others have that stop me doing things in leanest way.

Re: What do you work at?
It was nearly knocking off time this afternoon and my phone rings. Pole been brought down by winds in Callander, dangerous to public, you'll have to go out. Callander is about 45 miles from where I live plus it's starting to get dark. Off I go, about a 3/4 hour drive. Pitch dark now. Found the lady who had reported it..."there!" she says. Three feckin' electricity poles! Nothing to do with BT! I smiled politely and left, then started crying all the way home...

It had insulators on it and a street lamp! BT poles have steps, electricity ones don't.
Top piccy=BT pole
This piccy=Electric pole with street light
I get paid OT if I work beyond 16.52pm.
