What pisses us English off is paying for your free medications and University's for a start. Against HS2 anyway. Get to Birmingham or London 20 minutes quicker? No thanks. I would rather visit Scunthorpe.

The reason we have free prescriptions and University education fees is because our government had the political will to pay for it Your government decides to spend it's money elsewhere. Like keeping £200 Billion worth of Trident missiles 30 miles from Scotlands largest City, 3rd only in size to London and Birmingham. Come independence, they'll be one of the first to go. Maybe you could keep them in the Wash. Nothing like a "First Strike Target" on your doorstep to concentrate the mind. Just remember at the moment Scotland sends approx £60Billion + to Wesminster and we get Aprrox. £34 Billion back for the "block grant". You subsidise nothing, if anything it's the other way about. Have a look at this. They discontinued publishing it in 1921 because it was getting embarrassing for the government of the time:

Subs most welcome in the Wash, however doubt its deep enough to cover them. Anyway they are out and about not tied up to the quayside. Theres one in the Baltic and another off Crimea but dont tell the Ruskies.

Thought so. Glasgow is UK's 7th largest city and Edinburgh the 9th. Both about the same size as Leicester.

Nope. 3rd largest CITY in UK. You are going by metroplitan areas not actual city area. e.g. Manchester Metropolitan if far bigger than Glasgow, but Glasgow CITY is bigger than Manchester CITY. Wiki thingy

Or go green and turn it into a cycle lane. Ideal, no steep hills.

And remember this wee song by Hue and Cry? It was also the "Second city of the Empire".

Wikipedia is not a good source. It is written by the public and can be changed by anybody. Interestingly it also says its population was double in 1938. Did they all become canon fodder in the war?
