Mobility scooters.
Are all these people in Tenerife riding these things really disabled or impaired? Interesting reading...the piece is about UK.

Re: Mobility scooters.
There is a guy with one near me and is a maniac with it he drives as fast as he can and swerves round you. He also has a habit of ringing his bell to tell people to shift.
Tenerife with them and bloody bikes are are danger to people like me who enjoy wandering along in a dream world

Re: Mobility scooters.
Perhaps if some of the larger users done a bit of walking their health would improve and they would not need them. I agree with you TD.

Re: Mobility scooters.
There are obviously some large people who have a reason for it beyond their control and I feel the ones that are just fat and lazy are degrading these.

Re: Mobility scooters.
They sell 70000 of these a year. If we give each an average lifespan of 5 years, that's 350000 on the street at any time. Would there really be 350000 people in dire need of these things? Should be for properly vetted disabled people only. I also agree that some of the obese clientèle should not get one. Fair enough if it medically necessary, but for those that would prefer not to experience pain or effort, these things are only going to exacerbate their problems in the long run.

Re: Mobility scooters.
Where is Jimbo? for some reason I seem to remember he used to be involved with providing equipment including mobility scooters for the disabled (or did I dream that??)
I kinda also remember this conversation elsewhere and the embarrassment of being castigated for suggesting that some people use them because they were fat and lazy rather than have a genuine need - seems the reality is I was not alone in my thoughts but some people are just too good, or two faced to even suggest such a thing.

Re: Mobility scooters.
Lost 8lb since been back. Put on a stone and 2lb whilst on the rock.
Might do 3 weeks in autumn and come home and get a scooter. I would then drive it for charity to Tenerife. I would raise money for the food for fatties society, to help the economy in the sales of mobility scooters. Ban lettuce campaign, starts here.

No, you didn't dream it Gypsy - my OH has a mobility aids business which includes scooters.
Demand for them is growing (get it ) and the margins are exceptionally good.
The real return is in servicing though. Collect the u/s one, repair it, return it or do a trade in against a better model. Money for old rope !
