Re: Todays DIY,
Bit of both Reg. I was fitting a dishwasher and there was a stock pot soaking in the sink. I wanted to wash my hands and the pot was in the way so I poured out the water forgetting I had undone the trap underneath.

Servicing the car, refilling with oil, kept dipping to see if full, nothing on dip stick, top up a bit more and dip again, nothing, done this several times, then the penny drops, had not refitted sump plug, to busy chatting to mate when doing job. Arrggghhhhh............

Re: Todays DIY,
We got t a site years ago when I worked with bro. Timber frame building, put the plates down, kit turned up erected ground floor, joisted, started getting panels up for next level. Owner turned up and looked a bit strange. We had put building up as per drawing with the front facing the road. He wanted the back on to the road as it was being removed and a new one put in the other side. ooops.

Re: Todays DIY,
I would like a Huff house on wheels, Then it could follow the sun, And if it was facing the wrong way you could just push it round the right way, Why nobody else thinks of these things is a mystery,

Re: Todays DIY,
I've got a slate that has slipped off the roof and is lying in the rhone pipe. Might have a look at it tomorrow if it doesn't rain.
Edit: I don't have a slate nail...anybody want to bring me one?

Re: Todays DIY,
Well first off it would have to be a top slate to get a nail in, Unless your on about them bits of wire they use up there, Think its only scotland that boards a roof before the slates, Seen that somewhere, down here they dont bother nailing every slate or tile, So a bit of wind and thats it most of the roof is next door,

Re: Todays DIY,
It's like this Reg...
I'm hoping I can just swing the two slates above to either side to let me see the boards underneath, then I can nail it back in again. (I hope...)

Re: Todays DIY,
Stick it in with mastic. Batten underneath is probably rotten anyway which is why its fallen out. Do it quick before the p i k e y s notice.

Hey! Good idea vince. Will bathroom sealant do instead, I've got white or brown. Don't have any mastic though...Might have a tube of no-nails somewhere though.

Re: Todays DIY,
When i restored a cottage in 1983 ish, It had a yorkshire stone roof, Some of them was 4ft by 3ft, You just couldnt lift them, I slid them down 3 scoffold poles while i replaced some of the timbers, Tree's with one side sawn flat, Then we hauled them back up with ropes, 8 days start to finish, 8am til 10pm, A builder friend turned up with a roofer to have a look, He said he couldnt do better, We was well chuffed, i always have a look when i pass, Cant believe its still there, No nails either, Little wooden pegs hooked over the battons, Ive done some blady stuff in my life time,

Re: Todays DIY,
Got the other half of the kitchen in today, No sink at the moment, No hob either, So no chicken , Work tops tomorro, Extra wide to carry on into the window rebates, Few bits of cornicing, Should be finished, So this morning i was emptying cupboards at 7am, cleaning up with henry the hoover at 8pm, Janet seems to get out of the way at times like this, Is she smart or lazy ?, Why do i feel like i'm doing the breast stroke with people hanging on to me,

I must be on my 4th or 5th, Great hoovers, I get carried away and start sucking up damp stuff, Then next time i use it smoke appears, I have a Karcher for the wet stuff but never use the thing,

We use them at work for many things, but one is for sucking swarf out of recently machined parts.
