Telegraph
The mark up on books is massive though so are they not killing themselves off.
A writer deserves to make a good living for original work but a lot of stuff these day is copied twaddle.
most cook books are the same but revamped and tweeked a bit. Travel books, not brilliant so if you want the right info now you use forum's like ours or blogs.
Fiction, many books now are about child hardship and it is mostly family members making a fortune out of some person from their family who has seuffered. We know an author who writes on the back of her family and the distress they have suffered, which is great for her but I know 3 of the kids involved and each article or book rips them apart.
Then you have the love stories, same old twonks adapting the book they wrote 6 years ago to make it look like a new novel. The readers liked the previous one and think oh this is great very similar to that book she wrote before.
