Re: Forest Fire?
i hadn't realised that other islands were suffering from fires too
can't imagine the aftermath once they finally get them all under control

Remember we went up Teide and the bus stopped at Vilaflor for coffee at Julie's cafe? Well Vilaflor has just been evacuated.

Haha! I forgot about that guide, he was a scream! Anyway, still on topic, the farmers have been asked to release all their animal as their natural instinct will be to flee the flames.

Re: Forest Fire?
We haven't had any sun for 2 days because of the smoke. There is ash everywhere. Went up to Masca today to check the lay of the land before attempting the walk next week. Stepped out of the car and was hit by a wall of heat. The fire is heating up the wind blowing down the barranco. 45 degrees, I kid you not, and still there were eejits doing the walk!

Yes lots of long term damage, How often do they have fires in Tenerife, And are they prepared for it ?tickityboo wrote:I wonder how the fire situation is today. Such a shame.

I thought that was the reason they put baffle plates in the tankers, so all the liquid didn't just move from one side to the other all of a sudden like.

Re: Forest Fire?
There are baffles, But it still shifts all at once innit, 20 compartments -20 loads shifting, Dont think fire engines have any, But ?
If ever your behind a tanker watch when he stops, The thing is going up and down as it swishes front to back,

Re: Forest Fire?
Those of you who visit other forums or facebook probably saw that it was announced yesterday that Arona Ayuntamiento were asking for food and water for the fire fighters and for people to contact the Tourist Information Offices to find out where to drop it. I picked this up from Facebook and when I posted it I did question why the authorities would use TWITTER to ask for help and also why tell people to go to offices most of which would be closed an hour before the announcement was made.
Still that is the sort of logic us old buggers who don´t have a degree use when we see something that doesn´t quite add up. I wrote to my contact in Tourismo who said yeah, it was a cock up and they had posted the wrong message to the wrong group !!! Shit happens but at least the worst now seems to be over and everything is in control.
But the purpose of this post really is to say that people who give the impression they are better educated than the rest of us don´t always have what we have - common sense. My friend Helen (got two people interested in her house in Scotland by the way) wrote to me tonight and said
>>I went into work this morning and a colleague said to me " Have you heard about Mount Teide erupting? I said "I don't thnk so - there have been some really bad forest fires up in the hills". This is the reply she gave "well my friend is in Los Cristainos and she was on the beach and looked up and saw all the flames coming out of the top of Mount Teide!"
I can laugh about this today because it looks like thankfully they have everything under control but it does make you wonder about some people's ability to thnk something through before they open their mouths!<<

Re: Forest Fire?
Well I am just so glad that they have got some control over the fires. I did see the posts on Facebook and elsewhere and did wonder if they were correct.

Re: Forest Fire?
This is meant in the right way despite sounding rather morbid, but has anybody lost there lives in the fires pray to god not but of all I've read I havent seen it mentioned so hopefully not.
I see Maderia has been hit with forest fies as well:

Re: Forest Fire?
Not heard anything BS so have to assume everyone is fine, there was talk of releasing animals for those who had farms and small holdings because they would naturally run from the fire and only heard that 3 needed treatment for slight burns so think it could have been an awful lot worse.
