Really enjoyed it. Apart from the German chap giving the old style salute! Thought Alan was seeing things when he mentioned it... but somebody else on my Facebook had seen it too. A friend was at the ceremony, so she was posting pics too.
Right - I've just rewatched that bit... to see if the guy was indeed
doing the "Heil" arm signal. It's not (left arm instead of right etc etc)...
but what is hilarious is the look on Camilla's face, who is sat behind
him. She can't quite believe what she is seeing!

Re: Opening Ceremony BBC HD
Well I only watched a bit as I was gobsmacked when the announcements were made in French FIRST. 'Cos most Londoners are foreigners I guess. Some banality from Mr Bean, the Queen and James Bond. Jeez, then they wheel out the British army walking up a plastic hill waving flags, what is this, Moscow during the cold war? At that point I turned off. Apparently the fireworks were good and Mr Beckham sailing up river in a boat with the flame. That would have been good enough, I could have supplied the boat for 100k, and sung better than Macartney. Lets hope our athletes put on a better show........

I was under the impression that Great Britain was hosting the Olympics.
Apart from 3 video link songs by choirs from Scotland, Wales & Ireland, there was no real representation of anywhere but England.

There was Paul McCartney he has a Scottish name and sounds like Bagpipes warming up.BobMac wrote:Blyth Spirit wrote:Credit were credits due great TV, makes me proud to be British.

That's a bit unkind.
I'll give you the Scottish name, but sounds like bagpipes tuning up??
Bagpipes ( or as we call them in Scotland - The Agony Bags ) tuning up are more melodic than what he did last night !!

I think the French language first was in honour of Pierre de Coubertin,
founder of the first modern Olympic games in Athens in 1896. (But, then again, I could be wrong).

Re: Opening Ceremony BBC HD
well I enjoyed the opening. I admit I was confused at some bits as to what certain bits represented but those little petals being lit and then moving upwards was spectacular. The fireworks also. When Macca came on I switched off. He is passed it and should refrain from singing again.

Re: Opening Ceremony BBC HD
Best ask the FA about the football. Rowing I thought was in the Lea Valley Park, North London. But Eton next to Heathrow anyway. Weymouth on the south coast about as near to London as you can get without being in a shipping area and you are very fortunate to be hosting a cycling event in your local area Chelmsford, hardly a long way from London then. Plenty of woods and hills in Chingford where I grew up which would have been suitable but there you go. Strangely enough I will be in Chelmsford this afternoon, look out for a grubby blue Merc estate S25 VRS. I like a nice debate, and beer. I think Londoners have been paying a levy on their rates for the past few years to at least partly fund these Games. Lets hope it at least breaks even or they will still be paying in 2112.........

Given the number of empty seats, you'll be paying for it for a lot longer than that
