This last sentence confuses the hell out of me...
..."Bail terms had been set earlier; Mr FitzPatrick's sister Joyce O'Connor
stood bail for him in the sum of €10,000. He has to sign on every
Wednesday at Irishtown Garda station in Dublin, reside at his current
address and give gardai 48 hours’ notice if he intends to change address
or leave the country. The signing-on condition is to be suspended
during periods when ex-Anglo boss is out of the jurisdiction."

He needs to give 48 hours notice to the cops that he will be leaving the country and therefore his obligation to sign on in the cop shop will be suspended for the duration of his stay abroad. Simple innit! Mind you,I would have thought that if he was out of the country, it was fairly self evident that he wouldn't be able to sign on.
