BBC News - Union: Royal Mail staff care more about future than shares

They dont care about the future, they care about their cosy futures. Anybody who doesnt turn up for work on November 4th should be sacked and made to re-apply for their jobs. That way the Communists, dead wood and thieves can be weeded out.
I think the Government have been quite shrewd off loading this millstone, I see no future at all for Royal Mail. No fecker needs to post letters any more and as for the parcel service its just a joke. I have been waiting since Monday when they were posted for a couple of car light bulbs, still not here Thursday. Pathetic.
Patsy has taken my car to work cos shes frightened the lights on her silly modern go-cart will all fail, the one thats gone out was fitted 4 weeks ago, rubbish. VW should be forced to fit the original Beetle headlights to all of these cars. They are plainly too small (about 3" across) and cause the bulbs to overheat.
Got Royal Mail shares? If I had some I would off load them quick Brother.
Anyone wanna buy a black Beetle? Spare bulb not included. Be quick before she gets home......Transport

A lot of postal workers drink in the same pubs I do, there's a big sorting office in the area, one of them who is in our quiz team has worked there for something like twenty odd years, he's got a physically but not mentally demanding job, empties and loads the trucks, guys well educated, brilliant pianist, guitarist, singer, just one of them that wants to turn up, do his job, get paid and go to the pub and enjoy himself.
His hours of work are 2pm till 10pm, the three quizzes we do start, one at eight thirty, two at nine, he was always there for the start,,, note I say was...
He would regularly be in pub for eight, his "work team" had X amount of trucks to unload/load, for years it had been the case that his team would hammer on with the job, get it done by eight and disappear to the pub, nothing was ever said to them, well, that was until recently... His manager pulled the team and told them that they were to be there until ten, not that they were getting more work to do, just that they had to be there till ten... All of the team were threatened with disciplinary action and complied, not my mate,,, his boss again warned him that it would lead to discipline, as it did...
My mate, with his union, argued that it had been an accepted practice for so many years that it must now be accepted as the norm, note, I told my mate quite clearly that if I were his employer I'd sack him, if the job can be done in six hours, it's a six hour job, not an eight, and that I'd find other work for him to do or cut the number in the team,,, he called me some foreign name !!!
The outcome of the disciplinary meeting, no discipline, but an agreement that he should not disappear pre 9pm......
He knows there's changes coming, has applied for enhanced voluntary redundancy package a few times in the last couple of years, not been accepted, been there too long, expensive to get rid off,,, reckons the enhanced packages will now disappear and be straight redundancy when the cuts start...
He'll survive, he's set up with own house etc, just play a couple of gigs a week in some pub cash in hand, plus his redundancy, dole money, and pension when he's due it, it's the future, sorted...

I'm hanging on to my RMG shares and will probably buy a shed load more soon.

There's three big sorting offices in London that are soon to become redundant and will be sold off for big bucks.

The letters side of the business is crap and they should sack all the union commies as soon as they cause any trouble. Preferably replace them with Eastern Europeans who will doing a better job quicker, cheaper and without trouble.

Leaving RMG management to concentrate on the parcels business which has no real competition in Europe regarding service / price / coverage etc.

    Buy RMG :)

My postmans a very nice bloke, and so was his predecessor who still lives in the village after his retirement. I'm not saying they are all bad you understand. And hey, the local post office to me (5 miles) is even open at lunch time now. Ever wondered why post-boxes are red? 3318427985

Bought some car light bulbs on ebay last Sunday but they have not arrived so have had to make a claim. Second time in a month Royal Mail have failed to deliver so the organisation is either full of thieves or incompetents. I suspect the former. Ever wondered why post-boxes are red? 16779677
