The only thing different this evening is that I plugged the router direct into a socket rather than an extension lead.

Because I don´t like wires trailing around, this is what we use
One goes into the router and the other into whatever else you like. Ours we have in the TV so we can pick up the signal, which is really strong and for the past 12 months no missing the end of programmes. Maybe you need to get a set of these to cut out all the crap that is plugged in in the middle?

That looks great M, but it won't solve the problem of interference coming into the router that is causing it to short circuit
