Norton 360 Anti Virus Protection... Empty Norton 360 Anti Virus Protection...

Post by Adam Mint Thu 16 Oct 2014 - 18:01

When I purchaced my laptop I was offered Norton 360 Anti Virus Protection at a discounted price, which I purchased, what I didn't realise was that I had to pay an annual fee for its upkeep, this I have now paid for several years, I think the inital annual fee was about thirty odd quid, I have just had this year's renewal fee sent to me, £65...

People have told me I'm stupid for paying for computer security as there are free packages available on line, but as I do my banking on line and I have allways paid for the Norton package thinking rightly or wrongly I'm getting something better...

To date only one thing seems to have got past Norton security, I posted on here about it, it was a fake police notification saying I had been watching child porn (which I had not) and wanting me to pay a fine to unlock my computer...

So what's the advice from those in the know,,,, pay for Norton, or is there anything out there free that's just as good...

I got Norton with my new PC and laptop last year. I turned them off immediately. It uses up copious amounts of memory and while I haven't used any Norton stuff in years, it used to let all kinds of crap through. I use AVG for the last 5 years. Its free and brilliant. Only once was the security comprimised and that was when I open an attachment on an email ( I even thought to myself while clicking the button that this looks dodgy, feckin eejit).

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ( make sure you click the "free" one not the "trial".

The only thing that doesn't come with this is automatic updating ( It will prompt you when needed) and firewall protection ( you should have this built into your operating system anyway.)

My old net book and Vals computer have Norton ,it seems alright with Vals but the netbook is hopeless with the Norton ,as slow as treacle, my new H.P.chromebook has everything included for life and it automatically updates itself so no hassle

I have Bullguard on mine and Mermaid's laptops plus tablet. I pay an annual fee of about £44. It has never let anything nasty through yet and I've used it for over 10 years. I do my banking online as well so I don't mind paying knowing I'm getting good security. Norton 360 Anti Virus Protection... 294053457

I also use AVG and have for years.  Recently I did a trial on Malwarebytes to see if everything was OK and my laptop and netbook were clean as a whistle.  I use the free version and as D said you get a notification when new updates are available.  I also do my banking online and have touch wood never had any problems.

When I used to pay I used McAfee which was good but AVG is no different and as said FREE!!

I have a few weeks untill my Norton package runs out, could I run the AVG package alongside to see how it works ?

    Firewall ? what's that ?

3rd, like Gypsy do you do your banking on line using the AVG as protection ?

Cam, like me at the moment you pay for security, would you jump ship to the free  AVG  package being recommended  ?

Yeah, I do nearly all my banking online. Never had an issue yet touch wood. There is no point running AVG alongside Norton. I pretty much guarantee Norton has some kind of inbuilt incompatibility with other anti viruses.

It's not wise to run two anti-virus software together. One or the other. And no, I'd stay with the pay package every time.
