TALKS to save Monarch Airlines continued this weekend with just days left to avert the carrier’s possible closure.
Sources close to the negotiations said they were confident a deal could be reached before Friday, when its licence to sell holidays is due to expire.
Greybull Capital, a London investment fund, is in talks to buy the carrier from Switzerland’s Mantegazza family.
The process has been complicated by the need to agree terms with unions, aircraft lessors and the Pension Protection Fund (PPF), the government-backed agency that takes on retirement plans from stricken companies.

A secretive vulture fund that backed electricals retailer Comet before its collapse has emerged as a potential saviour for the troubled airline Monarch.

a funny thing happened to the other half on way to berlin ...
she had a ticket with a germn tour compnt so they said ´´wait outside hotel ambassador´´ so we did ...along came a coach TUI customers got on looking like ´´were posh ´´ and left my misses standing there ,coach went round the one way system and stopped at a large hotel arround the corner and wa giving an updated list ...so back round th one way system to pick up the better half ...by then we got big ice creams and had sat in the sun another 20 mins while posh TUI people sat on a coach thats just gone bck to where they got on ...footnote flight was cancelled so got a night in posh hotel in los christ..

I booked flights and hotel seperate but paid for both on a credit card at same time. Both covered by either atol or abta, cant remember, probably both. Anyway airlibe went tits up, 8 of us, so had to re book more flights, got the flights at 8 quid more each than previous, put a claim in to Travel republic who did the booking....bear in mind they did two seperate as they do, they said we needed to claim the airfares back through abta/atol....we did and were told after 7 weeks it could take 18 months to 2 years. We contacted the credit card and were paid within 10 weeks and the full wack, despite using the hotel they paid us back for both, result.

I complained about a 7 hour flight delay got it referred to ATOL and they took 3 years to tell me they are happy that the delay was not through Thomascooks own fault. Despite the fact that after 2 hours they sent the crew home, 3 hours the plane was ready and then another 4 hours to get a replacement crew, fecking shambles they all eat off the same plate.

Couple of lines from the article, take it that means the Canaries routes are ok...

The fleet will be reduced from 42 aircraft to 34, and long-haul and charter flying will end by April.

The network will specialise in Monarch's scheduled short-haul European leisure routes.
