Skellig Michael

I know most of you will probably never visit over here but if you do get the chance, it might be worth your while to visit this tiny island off the Kerry coast. It is a World Heritage site. There are ( I think) 700 steps from the lower part to the very top. 2 people have died climbing it since 2007. The government ( and rightly so) has refused to install a safety rail on the grounds that it is a protected site and this would be an intrusion. If you miss a step only the sea will stop you falling apparently. I'll take a video of the climb when I do it next April with my brother in law. I'm brickin it already cos I'm not good with heights. Great music choice for it, Your thighs will kill you going up, Your knees will double kill you coming down, Climbing fells in the lake district taught me that, 700 steps ? How many in your house, 24 maybe, whats that then 280 times, Ish, Go do 10 times now, You better start practicing, I may have my sums wrong

Thats the least of my worries. I'm not good at all near the edge of things and some of them drops are right beside the path. I'll probably end up on all 4's at some stage

I watched that episode, brilliant stuff. Can you imagine building all them steps and the "bee-hives"?

I'm sure I'll appreciate it more after the event. I'm already gettin the willies thinking about it. I wouldn't mind so much but it was my idea! I'm giving up alcohol

Near us is a place we used to play on the way home from school, Its called the 99 steps, theirs a double hand rail in the middle, We used to slide down and run back up, A few years ago we was driving past, So i pulled up, Got out had a look and got back in and drove off,

You could begin by climbing Red Mountain. It is 10% the height of Teide.

Make sure you take some photos Dermot! I'd love to see them.

I think hes have problems climbing one step up yet alone 700.
