Anyone bought a "Kindle"
Has anyone bought one of these "Kindle" e-book things? I'm thinking of getting one for the missus this Xmas. When I went on to Amazon.co.uk to purchase it, they redirected me to the U.S. site (amazon.com) as my delivery address is in Ireland. This has made me immediately suspicious. Why do they want me to purchase from the U.S.? I noticed that books are generally dearer from this site. Can anyone shed any light and which site would they recommend to purchase from?

I remember when I was on the other forums that the Tenerife ex-pats that tried to buy one were also directed to the US and had to buy them from there. I think they all received them OK. I bought 2 a few months ago as early Christmas presents for me an Mermaid. I've registered mine and it's ready to go to download books. There are I think, 3 types now. Mine were £111 each which is the 3G version with a keyboard and you can download as long as you are in range of your router. There is a dearer version that has GPRS which you can download books anywhere rather than having to be in range of your router, this clocks in at £149. The newest one is £89 and doesn't have a keyboard but still has to be in range of your router.

Re: Anyone bought a "Kindle"
Thanks everybody for all the help. It's not the delivery I'm worried about, more the reason behind the fact that they sent me to the U.S. site. That means ( I think) that I would have to buy the books from that site as well which is dearer.
Mischief Maker, Tesco don't do them here only Currys and they are charging 199 euro for them

Re: Anyone bought a "Kindle"
we have a kindle, all the old stuff that was written by dead people is free, but we were told you can get the latest books for free if you download Torrent so we now want to know what that is. Otherwise all the books are the same price as those in the shops its just an easier way to access them especially if you are travelling you dont want to use your weight allowance on books.
