Detectives from Scotland Yard have been in Barcelona, as they continue to review the case of Madeleine McCann, the British three year old who disappeared while on holiday with her parents on the Portuguese Algarve in May 2007.
Sky News reports that a team from the Metropolitan Police spent three days with police in Barcelona last month, on November 23 and 25, and indicates that officers have also made three visits to Portugal as they re-examine the young girl’s disappearance.
The review has been named Operation Grange, and was launched in May this year. Sky News said it came following a request by the UK’s Home Secretary, Theresa May, with the backing of the British Prime Minister, David Cameron.
There has, as yet, been no news of any breakthrough in the investigation.
A possible Barcelona link to Maddie’s disappearance was investigated in 2009 by detectives employed by the young girl’s parents, Gerry and Kate McCann. A woman with an Australian accent, similar in appearance to Victoria Beckham, was sought after a British man reported a conversation he had with her in the Catalan capital shortly after Maddie disappeared.
