Re: Planning troubles
All those objectors are NIMBYs. "I've no objection except not here". I get it all the time when I need to replace a decayed telephone pole..."Why should it be in my property?". Because it's been there over 50 years and some fecker got a payment for it when it went up and it comes with the deeds when the property is sold on. "I'm not even with BT", is another. That was that git Thatcher's fault when she privatised the GPO. We were a monopoly then, much like Royal Mail just now. In fact we were both the same outfit under the GPO. How did they stay a monopoly? Does my nut in trying to explain there are 20-30 phone lines coming off that pole all feeding different houses and they think it's just a case of "put the pole in someone else's garden", never mind there's an underground duct feeding the pole. I think they all think it's done by magic radio waves or something. I'm ranting now aren't I?

Re: Planning troubles
I loved the Scottish system where the applicant isnt allowed to speak No argument then ,
Local conservation officer had the same Christmas jumper on all the time, Sat looking at pictures of old buildings with a stiffy on
Posh tart buys a listed building then wonders why she cant have decking and a jaccuzi, recons it would be uber cool, slack cow, settled on a pink kitchen, bit like Janets done another slack cow,

Re: Planning troubles
Not for 7 years yet Vince. There are still over 4 million poles in service in the UK. Someone has to replace them when they decay or get damaged. It would be impossibly expensive to put all those lines in underground ducts. What I think will happen over the years is, as the houses get old and condemned the new houses will get new underground ducts and cables, but it won't be in my lifetime, nor my kids either I suspect. Nor my grandkids either...see where I'm going with this?Perfectspecimen wrote:I suspect telegraph poles wont be around much longer Cam. When do you retire?

Re: Planning troubles
We're putting fibre optic overhead now to premises. Super-duper fast. A guy works from home with an Internet business out in the sticks, it will probably be a pole route that serves him, cheaper than digging the road up for miles to lay duct, and he will want the fastest download speed he can get. I agree the towns and cities are slowly getting rid of poles in the town centre but as I say, not in the suburbs.

A pen that looks like a telegraph pole. This is what happens when you are immersed in something for a long time, You cant see the wood for the tree's, Is there anybody out there that can draw a pole with Cams face on it,

Re: Planning troubles
Along the A17 in Lincolnshire somebody has planted the top 6 foot of a telegraph pole in his front garden. It looks a bit odd to say the least. Bet he's one of the 531.

Re: Planning troubles
I know someone who has done up a red telephone kiosk and stuck it in his back garden. Cost him thousands.

Re: Planning troubles
Just watched the planners, Conservation officer still conserving his christmas jumper .
Learned that you dont have a right to a view , So be carefull what you buy.
Also never buy a listed building, you have to look after it and pay for it but they tell you what you can and cant do,
And finaly never wear a bad rug on your head on tv, people can spot an irish from 50 yds, and it makes you look a kent
