October 8, 2014
Telefónica presented its plans for laying fibre optic cable in the tourist areas of South Tenerife at a press conference held in the FIT (Factory for Tourism Innovation) centre in Adeje today.
The 8 million euro investment will make the new technolgy available to over 51,000 homes and businesses in Adeje and Arona.
Adeje Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga told reporters, “..we are happy to support this kind of initiative, which will really benefit residents and businesses in South Tenerife.
“The council, and that of Arona, have pledged to collaborate regarding granting any licences or permissions needed for the installation, to ensure there are no delays”.
Individuals or businesses who want to know if and when they will be able to take advantage of the new technology can do so in Movistar centres, or by calling 1004 or by checking the Movistar web page.
In homes, the 100 meg lines that fibre optics can deliver will allow high definition television, online games with no delays, file sharing, streaming, videoconferencing, high speed internet navigation, as well as the multi use of different connected devices without loss of quality.
During the press conference Telefónica representatives were keen to highlight the fact that the new service would, within a year or two, reach parts of the borough of Adeje that have, until now, suffered from a poor service, such as Callao Salvaje and Playa Paraíso.
