Re: What are you doing today??
Went to Oakham today in Englands smallest county, Rutland. Pure Anglo Saxon place it is. Had to watch daughter do parading up and down the street in her RAF gear. She had a big gun with a spear on it. Not sure if either was real. Army there too, but they wouldnt let them have a gun. Would be pointless anyway, they looked like they would all jump if something went bang. Luckily I didnt have to go in the church, think it was full of uniforms. Handy pub opposite, very old peeps in there mainly eating roast dinner. Looked crap and didnt help when one old dear put her cheesecake on her dinner plate, still had one roast spud and gravy on it. We had dinner in Wetherspoons, steak and kidney pudding. 3/10 but the beer was cheap. Nice weather and Oakham was a nice place, very English.

I despair of today's youth. Just saw a dizzy blonde on "Tipping Point" get asked the question, "In 1841 who organised the first package holiday and the company is still going today?" "British Airways" she says. FFS! Obviously she doesn't know about Orville and Wilbur Wright either then!

I was hanging a shower door. Complete bassa. The wall tiles were porcelain. Hardest substance known to man to try and drill through.

Re: What are you doing today??
Put a bit of duct tape on first to stop the drill sliding all over the tile...today's top tip.

Re: What are you doing today??
Yep, duct tape first, then tap the spot you want with a steel nail. You also need a diamond tip drill bit for porcelain tiles

Re: What are you doing today??
Phone call at 4.30 from neighbours son, can i pop round and see why she wasnt answering the phone,
deceased on the sofa thats why, I could have done without seeing her like that,
Hazel was 79 and she always called me her 4th son We had a good natter at the weekend while she got some leaves up. I blew them back with my blower, she lobbed her rake at me laughing,
I hung about in the house until her lads turned up we then had a group hug and i left them to it
I believe Dibble has to come first being a sudden death, 24 years next to her and pete

Re: What are you doing today??
Our neighbour over the way has had cancer for a couple of years. Shook of this mortal coil on Saturday. I was going to work this morning about 06.45am and saw Andy walking the dog, "How's Kate" I asked. "She died early hours on Saturday morning" he said. Felt terrible, but I didn't know.

Re: What are you doing today??
There is a research project in the UCD school of medicine going on at the moment ( might be Trinity ). They are working on a way to "highlight" the cancerous cells and the treatments can be targeted directly at these cells as opposed to the way chemo hits the whole body at the moment. The oncology professor in charge ( he's also a senator ) reckons 15 to 20 years, cancer will be manageable ( maybe not curable) and patients should have a virtually normal life span with none of the side effects of current treatments
