Eileen's brother ( mechanic) says exactly the same thing. He's driving a 1991Golf . As regards me importing cars, there must be 8 or 9 lads doing it within a 5 mile radius of me. Too many at it. That trade will stop if UK doesn't get a trade deal on Brexit. WE already pay VRT on any vehicle ( new or 2nd hand) that comes into the country. e.g that C5 above, would cost me 1443 euro in Vehicle registration tax on top of the buying price and transportation cost. When I got the van converted from a commercial van to a crew cab, it then came under a different VRT category and I had to pay 1051 euro in VRT. I had assumed it was only paid once you actually register a vehicle but they told me that my van would have to be re-registered as a crew cab. Had I known this, I would have bought the Vito from Reg's pal that owned the MOT garage. I would have got a much higher spec van for what would have worked out the same money ( if not slightly less)Mcqueen wrote: Trading standards would shut him down,
I can only speak from experience the garage is full of shite like that and mercs audi vw, land rover all with common problems, not one offs, but any of the others are in for a service or mot,
of course some swear by what ever they drive especially land rover people,
but the newer they are the worse they get,
When the gov had to get rid of import duty in the EU, they decided to rename it to VRT in the case of vehicles. I don't think it's been challenged in court but the gov would fight it to the last as if they got found guilty ( i.e. that it's import duty in disguise), they would have to pay back all the VRT over the last 15 or 20 years
( To calculate Vrt, i use revenue's website here. They have a database of what they think every vehicle is worth depending on age, mileage etc. The VRT is then calculated as a % of this depending on CO2 emissions )
