How do you pronounce Bothar na dTreabh? . Gonna follow N17 (Saw Doctors road) from Knock to N6 in Galway, turn right and drive to the roundabout and take 1st left. Should spot the fecker from there!

Re: What are you doing today??
I have been reading the reviews some good others bad lol. I blame the travel agent not giving us all the details. Oh well it is going to another country and it will be a break away from home. Just need the sun to decide to shine for a week then lol. On the plus side we will see you and Eileen and the kids and I can look for leprecauns lol3rdforum wrote:Stay a night with us!! That hotel, bring ear plugs!! its built over a filling station on the busiest road in the city! At the back is a small retail park. Used to be called the Pillo hotel. I'll talk later. Busy little bee here at the moment

Thats spot on. One of the entrances to the hotel is actually on that roundabout. The Lone Ranger wrote:How do you pronounce Bothar na dTreabh? . Means the road of the Tribes I think. The hotel is actually quiet nice inside and you can walk into the city centre in 10/15 min. Galway is a great city to walk around.

Re: What are you doing today??
The hotel is set back from the road a little bit. There is a retail park ( more like warehouse style) surrounding it to the back. However, Maldron hotels tend to be very nice so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Car hire over here is extortionate mainly because of the ridiculous insurance rates. they also charge a fortune for extras so take my sat nav. Its a few years old but will still do no problem. Whats dates are you over on and what time does your flight land? I might be able to meet you a few miles outside Galway and lead you in. Also, be aware, Knock airport charges a sneaky 10 euro per person "development charge" when you are departing. I had a stand up row with them there years ago over it.

You'll also want to know I'm sure, that Knock airport is only 4 or 5 miles from the town of Knock, which is one of only 3 sites around the world, where the Catholic Church officially acknowledges, that Mary, mother of god, made an appearance. I'm sure you'll feel obliged to visit the site of said apparition and pray for forgiveness for all your sins while being fleeced into buying sandwiches and coffee with a 400% mark up on them. You can also buy "holy water" at 10 euro a litre. Would be cheap at twice the price.

Re: What are you doing today??
I've not got all the documents yet but we leave Edinburgh at 14.00hrs and arrive at Knock approx 15.25pm. The car I've booked is £90 for the week but we have to fill it up, at their prices obviously, and return it empty. (As if that's gonna happen, they probably get a free quarter tank after every vehicle is returned.). The hotel looks pretty good on the website and I can usually sleep pretty well. I'm not going to quibble over €20 departure tax either though it wasn't mentioned by our travel agent.

Re: What are you doing today??
Thats a great price for the car. Just do a little research first, because a lot of them will hit you with extras like compulsory comprehensive insurance that they only dismiss if you allow a 5000 euro "hold" on your credit card

I have to go to the bank first thing and see about a credit card. If I can't get car hire the whole holiday could be cancelled. It seems they need a credit card, not a debit card, for the car hire.

I've got an appointment with "Nicola" from the Bank of Scotland at 2 o'clock this avo. I'll see what happens then. The lass I spoke to reckons I should be OK for a card but it takes 7 working days to turnaround.

Wasn't that how Knock airport got built in the first place? Some Father or other reckoned they'd need an International airport to accommodate the mass of pilgrims visiting the shrine?
