Re: The doctors surgery
Eileen's sister still in hospital. They performed emergency surgery this morning to try to save the sight in her eye, by relieving the pressure from the growth. They still don't know what is going on " We have never seen anything like it before" . You would think after 3 weeks they would have come up with some plan of action3rdforum wrote:Eileen's sister went to opticians yesterday. She had a CT scan a couple of hours ago, where they found something behind the eye. She was told and i quote " It might be the fungus or it might be something else!" FFS, I could have said that to her before she went in at all

Re: The doctors surgery
Didn't see original post Dermo, as you know from when you were over I've had ongoing sinus issues for years, since October it flared up again, have had three courses of antibiotics, been docs four times, last three times seeing same doc, oh and a dental check up cos doc though some of issues could be dental related, was at docs again Monday, I've told doc since first visit as well as normal sinus issues I've got a sore neck, I can put my finger on neck where pain emminates from, it goes up my neck to my jaw to my ear and downwards in to my shoulder, docs have run their there fingers around my neck saying all's OK, last visit on Monday docs finger touches exact spot pain comes from, I jump, hospital appointment Tuesday.........
Medical issues scare the shit out of me, but pre last visit to docs I'd done a bit reading up on sinus issues, got a bit of an eyeopener, can cause various issues,,, I've had four operations, last one done no good and was told live with it,,, beginning to question that...
Hope all ends up ok your end...

Re: The doctors surgery
Well there this morning, junior doctor first, prods around, could find nothing, although where he touched hurt,,, he wanted confirirmation that he could find nothing wrong from from depattment (max fax) head consultant, he wants camera down me and dental x-Ray, again nothing found, suggest different hospital department referral, spinal,,, don't see the connection, I can touch a lymp mode in my neck that hurts as did my GP, but they say that ain't the problem but can't tell me what is...
To be honest, these guys need to be really qualified in the area they specialise in, but once they are happy it ain't there problem it's another departments job, absolutely no complaints with what these guy done today, just a bit it ain't your tyres, could be a sterling fault....
Bit relieved but not exactly in holiday mode at the moment...

Re: The doctors surgery
My GP told me he was referring me to the ENT department, would seem this Max Fax department is a specialist bit of it...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
My GP surgery runs a system where you can phone in between 11:00 and 11:30 each day and speak to your GP if you think it is something that can be handled with a phone call rather than an appointment which you can wait weeks for, tried phoning this morning but my GP ain't in until tomorrow... It's unlikely he will have the hospital report but I can tell him what they told me so hopefully get the ball rolling on the next move...
Ref the hospital report, I asked the consultant when my GP would receive the report, he said; he would compleat the report today (yesterday now) and put in in the system, but that it could two weeks to get to my GP,,, (he said this looking at me with a face that basically said the systems shite)...
This in my view is the problem with the NHS, the guys you see at the front line know their stuff, it's the bureaucracy involved it getting to see them that's the problem, plus the unnecessary staffing involved in it eating up NHS funding... To give an example, same hospital I was at yesterday Manchester Royal Infirmary, department I was attending was ENT in lead up to my last sinus operation a few years back, I arrive for my first appointment at the ENT department reception desk with my appointment letter in hand which clearly has all my data on it, but what am I asked at reception desk, name, address, phone No, DOB, doctors details etc etc,,, receptionist is plonking away at her computer as I relay this info, I'm told to take a seat in the pretty full waiting area opposite the receptionist, I sit there for over a hour passed my appointment time of 4pm (I'd asked for a late appointment so I could get the best part of a day's work in pre it), as said over a hour passes, a nurse comes to the double doors where everyone waiting has been taken through, my names called, thank feck I think it's my turn,,, but no, just through the double doors is another waiting area where she proceeds to ask me,,, name, address, etc, etc,,, I sit there for a hour or more,,, people are complaining and leaving cos they have somewhere else to be,,, eventually my name is called again, again I think thank feck it's my turn, but no,,, different nurse leads me round corner from waiting area to where there are four chairs outside the consultants door, three already occupied, I'm sat down on the fourth, any guess what the nurse proceeds to ask me,,, name, address, etc, etc.......... I eventually see the consultant at 7pm, some three hours after my appointment time...
Now where I'm coming from on this one is,,, there were four nurses milling around in this waiting area doing nothing other than move people from one waiting area to another and repetitively asking their personal details,,, WTF, NHS money well spent there,,,,,,,, there was absolutely nothing to prevent the receptionist booking you in, then when the docs ready for you, he calls her to say; next, and she tells whoever it is go down the corridor to room 5,,, simples innit...
I had four visits with that consultant pre the op, increased due to the fact one visit was a waste of time cos when he went in to my file to view the scans I'd had taken there were none there, he initially accused me of not turning up for the CT scans, he was quickly informed that I had and I went on to describe the location and decor of the CT scan department as back up to the fact I had attended, so I'm rebooked for more scans,,, I had six appointments with that consultant, four pre the operation and two post it,,, the waiting room fiasco was the same on each visit, after the second visit I asked for the first appointment of the day, my thinking being the consultant can't be running behind time if I'm the first appointment,,, wrong,,, I had about a hours wait each time despite being the first patient...
Oh, and the outcome, a complete cockup, surgeon comes to see me at bedside after op, he says have you had any previous sinus ops, yip, this is my forth, you've had your sinus cartleges removed, yip, had that done a few years back up in Scotland, Ah, that's what we were going to do today,,,,,, when we discovered they weren't there we've drilled out some of your passages a bit,,, (made no feckin difference)...
The amount of times my sinus history had been discussed with my GP, the consultant who also had a camera up my nose umpteen times, plus eventually scans,,, yet they operate to remove something I'd had removed years earlier,,,,,,,,,, all that said, they did get my name and address correct on the follow up letters...
Pivot...

Re: The doctors surgery
If you pay for a private consultation you will see how ££££ motivates people,
I had 4 or 5 sinus operations, then ended up with a tumour in my sinus's they removed it on the bone from eye socket down through the top of my mouth, I have been there,
Feck all happened until i saw the guy privately at Nuffield, from then on he took an interest,
You could park a car in my left sinus, but not much grief from it now,
And i still look good

Re: The doctors surgery
Sister in law had part of her eye socket removed as fungus was eating through bone and spreading towards the brain. She can't open her eye and one side of her face in partially numb. Her daughter is a pharmacist and she had a look at her mum's charts. Turns out , mum is on two different anti fungals to try and decrease size of growth ( working very slowly apparently ). Daughter then informs consultant that the two anti fungals are well known to counteract each other. You know what? Ye can keep the NHS. We might pay a lot for private insurance over here but the private consultants are shit hot.3rdforum wrote:Eileen's sister still in hospital. Re: The doctors surgery
I have an issue with private medical care, think we should be all treated the same, basically whether you pay private or go through the NHS it's the same consultant you see cos they work one day for the NHS and the next day for a few bucks more private...
I've had private BUPA medical insurance through a job I had, waste of time, oh, you've had a headache before you ain't covered, oh, you've had a sore back, your not covered, oh, you've had a piss you ain't covered,,, never got one referral through it...
I have paid a hell of a lot of tax and NI in my life and see no reason why I should pay twice...
When I see a doc I treat them on a one to one basis, I see them no better than me because of their qualifications, I knew Tuesday I was being palmed off with a junior doc, all very good he was, but I questioned him on every thing he said because in my mind he was not making a 100% positive statement on my issues, so eventually he gets the department head consultant, he mainly agreed with the junior doc, but because I argued point for point with reasons for my issues he decided to get the camera down me, again no positive diagnoses but both of them coming to the same conclusion where pain is coming from ain't cancer...
Spoke to GP today, he ain't got hospital report, but based on what I've told him he's prescribed steroids opposed to antibiotics as they seem to be doing no good, prescription is based on issues that could all be sinus related,,, something I was told was not life threatening and to live with after four operations,,, bollocks to that statement, I will be pushing this from now on, want an answer...

Re: The doctors surgery
Our government said it would bring in universal health insurance so everybody would be treated the same. So far, kids under 6 get seen by a GP for free. I'd say about 2 patients in every hundred are under 6. And thats just GP care, they haven't gone near the cost of hospitals. As it stands, my neighbour gets a night in hospital for free on a public ward. We pay 2200 a year for health insurance and then we pay ( or rather the insurances pays )1150 per night for the same bed in the same public ward. The only benefit is that we see a consultant faster and we can get a bed in a private hospital at a cheap rate.
