Re: New Forth replacement crossing.
If they are planning to open this bridge in 2016. they better get a move on as they've only just started to get ready to put the footings for the supports in now.
That doesn't leave a lot of room for manoeuvre if they have any problems.

The caissons for the supports were always going to be the hardest part. Get them right and the rest should fall in to place...or the Forth

Re: New Forth replacement crossing.
You drive all the way south on the M90, no hold ups, you drive north and between the Barnton and the bridge it’s ok, then at one time you hit the “highwaymen” (the tolls), so all came to a stop, the tolls were on the south end of the bridge so south queuing traffic waiting to pay the ransom were parked on the bridge, then some smart ass went o’feck trucks now weight 40 odd ton (tonne) “problem,” so then you had to pay twice as much to get in to Fife, but the bonus was you had a quick toll free exit...
And then, the oh’ the bridges is fecked story, OK, scrap it, no,,, we need a second one “““WHY”””, because the old ones fecked, ok then have a new one, oh’ but it’s not that fecked so we may just keep it..........
The tolls were a big problem, but not the main one, the roads infrastructure mainly south of the bridge were crap, then when they invested millions in trying to fix it they fu#ked it even further, bleeding all the traffic in at the one point.
But that’s just my opinion...
And I ant funding any fing,,, ferries, its the future, I like boats...

Re: New Forth replacement crossing.
Don't talk to me about Tolls, Calais to Dieppe use the Toll or take twice as long(with still a small toll) 21 euro each way. The quickest way to get thee with absolutely no toll is nearly four times as long, Robbing bar stewards.

Re: New Forth replacement crossing.
M25 has toll at Dartford crossing. Causes horrendous tail backs every rush hour and every weekend when women go shopping at local mall. Total madness.

Remember coming of the ferry on the back of my brothers Norton, he tried to get a flyer off the boat and skidded on the wet cobbles I was sore for a week, no skid lids in those days[ not for wee brothers anyway]

Re: New Forth replacement crossing.
Girl I went out with in my youth father was killed during the construction of the original road bridge, no compensation, was on a part of the bridge where he shouldn't have been...
Couple of weeks back there was a documentary on the telly about the building of the bridge, health and safety just didn't exist,,, it did touch on the deaths involved, his name was not mentioned, it does however appear on the memorial to those who died during its construction...

Re: New Forth replacement crossing.
Artist's impression innit, but it's coming along nicely. It will be the longest 3 towered, stayed bridge in the world when it's finished. (Until some wee uppity, oil rich Arab nation decide to build a bigger one!)
