Re: What are you doing today??
Been at work today and came home and painted all the bits of walls that got knocked with the windows in the kitchen. All the windows are now in and I'm pretty chuffed with them. Decorators arrive Monday, they'll be here at least a week. Living room is getting completely stripped of wallpaper and re-plastered, new windows to be sanded down and varnished and all skirting and doors sanded and painted. Both bedrooms to be completely stripped, new lining paper put on and ceiling and walls emulsioned, skirting and doors to be re-painted. Once I know when the decorators are getting near the end I can phone the carpet fitters, both bedrooms to be fitted with new underlay and carpets. Once that's done I can phone the furniture man so he can deliver our new bedroom furniture. (I'm a bit apprehensive on this as we're getting a big double wardrobe for the main bedroom, but as you come up the stairs you have to turn right 180° and all the furniture is ready built ).
Yesterday we went nuts in Dunelm getting brand new bedding and coordinated curtains, new pillows and duvets etc. I'll be really glad when it's all done 'cos we've emptied both the bedrooms of the furniture that was there to allow the workmen access and we're living out of holdalls just now.
Thank God the windows are done! The dust is a friggin' nightmare, it's everywhere! Mermaid has been working her wee socks off while I was at work trying to get the place into some semblance of order. Never mind, off 'til Tuesday now and I can get the carpet lifted in the main bedroom tomorrow.
I had to fit one of the blinds back on to the bedroom window for some privacy, it's like living in a goldfish bowl with all the windows without curtains or blinds. Anyhoo, as I said I'll be feckin' glad when it's done!

What was wrong with the old decor? I thought it was lovely. Was there female persuasion involved??

Re: What are you doing today??
Blady hell, sounds like one of my storys,
Today 2 fridges back and 2 refunds, purchase of 1 fridge, purchase of 1 worktop, place in van and cut 1 metre off to close back doors, call at screw fix and purchase some fittings, call at B&Q and puchase some fence paint (Green), Take 1 car to garage and retrive 2, deilver 1 and return to base with the other, have lunch in the garden,
peter set about the fence painting while i formulated another plan,
Best laugh of the day was at the timber merchants, the lad behind the counter had just got over the visit yesterday when we asked about stock and price, I went back in today and asked if he had some headache tablets and a glass of water, "Whats up he said dont you feel well", "nah up all night listening to the wife crying because i cant finish the kitchen because we run out of money" So then he starts laughing when the penny dropped,
i then asked him who got the most discount, "Jewsons he said" "did i tell you they call me Reg Jewson ?" Peter chimes in "Almost right" cheeky feck, By now the kid has tears rolling down his face, "Feck me he said i never met anyone like you before" I said "you want to get out more" OkOk i give in, top discount, take the blue slip and give it to the yard man and the pink copy is yours, "My favourite colour i said "grabbing hold of pete, feck right off pete said and headed the other way, A great half hour was had by all, he even waved through the window as we left,

Re: What are you doing today??
Peter my irish side kick is a great lad, so layed back and willing to do any job you give him, he works on the railway platform waving trains in and out, a real shitty job and not well payed, 4 days on then 4 days off, well somebody spotted he was a good worker and they put him in for a gaurds job with all the benefits like pensions and sick pay etc, but they are 2 different companys, and the platform people have gone a bit potty and complained to some hr person ?, so 1 minute pete was over the moon and handed in his notice, the next somebody has said he cant do the training in such a short time, so the upshot is he cant start until september and his first job wont have him back,
Bassa's, his new boss is really responsable but cant do anything, So i may have to get him more work to do to keep him afloat, i said summers here Pete, chillax and get some rays, see what happens,

Re: What are you doing today??
Bloody hell, easier to move. When I bought my conservatory we wanted brown in an white out, all agreed price agreed of 9k inc fitting. When it arrived colours round the wrong way. Guys already started pulling other down. Got told they make this one the way round i wanted and i had to have it as special size.
i knew that though as pre checked and read reviews.
So take it back, i don't want it. Please make good my old one as it is your fault.
We could do a deal sir, knock 2k off as no good to us., nah.
Got it for around 4k in the end.

Re: What are you doing today??
I dont really like plastic windows, but i had no choice as new wooden ones was a fortune,
So i searched for a really nice profile not the boxy ones, i just wanted 2 bays doing because i did the rest myself,
£2,600 thats about 15 years ago, Well they made a complete mess of fitting them, i could fill 2 pages telling you,
but you have to give them a chance to put things right, 2 and a half years later they said thats the best we can do,
Take them out i said i dont want them, but but but what will you do without windows ?, i'l board the holes up i said,
I have a complete record of when you started and what a shambles you lot are, sue me,
Settled on £900 to get rid of them in the end, Bassa's, worst tradesmen i ever came across,

Re: What are you doing today??
Lunch over, back to work. Nearly fell off a feckin roof this morning ( luckily I had tied myself with rope to the wheel of my van! ). Speaking of which, my brother in law was telling me about his brother who was a painter. He was painting the chimney of his parents house ( who were farmers) He tied the rope round himself and other end to the pillar of the gates leading from the farmyard to the fields. A horse bolted across the yard and through the open gate catching the rope around its neck on the way. Muppet head on the roof was dragged over the top and down the other side, landed on top of his van ( put a big dent in the roof), bounced onto the concrete and was dragged into the field. He emerged with barely a scratch ( must have been all the cowshite in the yard ). His dad came out, took a look at the proceedings and said "You're going to have a hell of a job getting that paint off those slates". Glad to see his heart was in the right place

The trouble with those windows is they always come out the factory square and true innit.
