Revs go up and down on their own, either hunting for air or fuel or even both,

Re: What are you doing today??
Its too rich Reg, like you. Fixed the lawnmower yesterday cos it caught fire few weeks back, bits off an old one so cost me nowt. Done about 10 metres with it and hit a stone, the bit the blade connects to shattered, probably cos I welded the fecker on. Anyway using yet more parts from an old one its good as new again and grass cut now. Some if it was a foot tall ffs. It must think its Spring time again.
Dermot, if your tank is cracked it must be double skinned if its not leaking. Either way you can repair it with some epoxy and fibreglass, rub it down well first though so epoxy sticks well. Or get one off ebay like I did for a fiver. That had best part of 100 litres of fuel in it as well.............

Re: What are you doing today??
Vince, thats a great tip about the fibreglass and epoxy. I don't think its double skinned cos I only paid 300 euro for it when we built the house ( 11 years ago). you can see where the plastic is beginning to "shatter" and "stretch" above where the crack is developing. Here are a couple of pics. You can see in the first one where the bottom right corner of the tank has "drooped" ( meant to put more lintels under the tank years ago and I forgot

" />
I also think the tank is bowing in the middle though maybe thats just my wonky eyesight

Re: What are you doing today??
I can put it through the house insurance if the tank "accidentally" gets damaged BUT, I have a 500 euro excess on the policy. The cost to empty the existing tank, replace with a new one, refill the new one and dispose of the old tank is 780 euro plus vat ( 23%), i.e the guts of 1000 euro. However, the lad I was talking too said he would do it for 780 cash but that means I won't be able to put it through the insurance. If I do put it through the insurance, then I reckon my premiums will go up, though they aren't meant to be allowed to do that over here.

I wouldnt feck with it, get a new one and swop the fuel over, your going to cry if that leaks all over,
That one looks like its should have a flat base to sit on, lot of weight involved,

O Dear! Must be on a flat surface mate. Mines on the patio with some sheets of ply under it too. Slabs were laid by some idiot, not me, maybe 30 years ago. Anyway how many litres does it hold? Mine is 1250 but looks a lot smaller than yours. If its double skinned they call it a bunded tank.

Re: What are you doing today??
Bunded is when it does leaks it leaks into a area big enough to capture it all, we build concrete walls all round them to satisfy the insurance company, cheapest way really, all blox innit

Re: What are you doing today??
1100 litres. The bloke I was talking to said that I was running the risk of putting it thro the insurance , and if they came out and found it to be on anything but a completely flat base, then they would be well within their rights to refuse to pay out. I think I'll take Reg's advice and get his to swap over with a new one for cash. It was the oil delivery man that pointed out the crack the other day. I was getting it filled up for winter. Cost me 310 euro for 600 litres so its putting even more pressure on the crack.Perfectspecimen wrote:O Dear! Must be on a flat surface mate. Mines on the patio with some sheets of ply under it too. Re: What are you doing today??
The tank is fecked D, I wouldn't even bother trying to repair that where the crack is, deffo bunded in my opinion but if the inner bit cracks...... Have a look on ebay D, they make feck all in England and it will fit in that trailer, peeps just want them out the way............ Put it on solid base too, floor will do, there is a pump on central heating boiler anyway. As for pumping out from one tank to another just use a 12v fuel pump connected to a battery charger. Might take a few hours though, but not nearly as long as clearing up a spill.

3rdforum wrote:We got heating oil delivered today. Feckin tank has a crack in it ( not leaking yet though). We'll have to replace it @ 900 euro
Dermo, if that tank ain't leaking it may be double skinned, get a broom handle and have a prod around inside and see if tank follows shape of base/feet, if it's smooth and not following the outer shape of the tank it could just be the outer skin/bund that's cracked, if it is, next time tanks empty get it resited on a flat surface not them bricks, they're just causing stress points hence the crack...

Re: What are you doing today??
Getting a new one Minty. They will empty the existing one and refill the new one on a flat base, plus, dispose of the old tank for me. The old one is a single skin, I checked the serial number against their website. Better get it sorted properly this time.

Re: What are you doing today??
For the best, was only a matter of time before it started leaking, then the cost of the lost fuel and the clean up would only have added to the cost...
Who dud you say fitted that one...
